The Department of Preventive Gerontology scientifically investigates whether lifestyles such as exercise, diets, intellectual activities, and social activities are effective in preventing dementia and frailty. We also promote digital healthcare for the promotion of the health of older adults by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and IoT devices.

Due to recent ICT innovations, methods for data collection, publications, data sharing, and so on are undergoing major changes. By promoting data sharing, we aim to collect, accumulate, and analyze big data and provide evidence that contributes to extending the healthy life expectancy of older adults.
We have conducted a large-scale survey to examine the relationship between lifestyle, living environment, and health problems in older Japanese people.
By providing and sharing the data obtained from the large-scale survey, we aim to form the basis for cross-disease cohort research and to build evidence that contributes to extending healthy life expectancy.
