The Department of Oral Disease Research is a new department created on
March,2004 in the National Institute for Longevity Science. It consists of
two sections :the section of oral infection control and the section of oral function
regeneration. We began research activities on March 1,2005.
We study oral and dental biology and develop prevention strategies and novel
treatments for oral disorders.Dental caries and periodontal diseases are major
disorders which lead to tooth loss, and are crucial problems to be addressed in
geriatric populations. We adopt an integrated approach to the problem of tooth
loss in elderly people .In particular,we define the etiology of periodontal diseases
that affect agerelated disorders and lifestyle related disease.Based on our studies,
we develop new therapies for periodontal disease that contribute to tooth.
preservation for elderly people. Finally,we develop safe and effective methods for
tooth regenertion.
