Welcome to Center for Gerontology and Social Science

shimada

I am Hiroyuki Shimada, and I have been appointed as the Director of Center for Gerontology and Social Sciences from April 1, 2019. Center for Gerontology and Social Science (CGSS) was established in April 2012 to promote empirical research on the various problems of today's aging society, and to contribute to the establishment of a healthy longevity society by promoting the mental and physical independence of older adults, which is the ideal of National Center of Geriatrics and Gerontology.

CGSS consists of five research departments, each of which is staffed by experts in each field. The main focus of our center is on the social issues that arise as people age, with the aim of developing measures that will enable older adults to live independently and with peace in the communities where they have lived over years. The major keywords of our center are "social participation," "support for independence," "social support," "social welfare," "home medical care," and "comprehensive community care. In addition, we promote problem-solving empirical research on a broad range of issues, including policies and legal systems related to older adults, as well as economic perspectives. CGSS conducts research on a variety of issues, and through information dissemination and dissemination activities based on the scientific results, aims to promote the physical and mental independence of older adults, improve QOL (quality of life), and helps to ensure individual satisfaction and dignity at the end of life. By doing so, we aim to contribute to the creation of a healthy longevity society.

We sincerely ask for your warm understanding, support, and severe criticism toward Center for Gerontology and Social Science, National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology.
