Operations performed in the elderly should consider not only short-term results such as the morbidity of postoperative complications and the length of hospital stay, but also long-term QOL (quality of life) after discharge from hospital. We are conducting research on safe operations and pre/postoperative management in the elderly in view of their postoperative QOL.
We are planning to extend the research, convey the results to clinical practice, and assess the possibility of low-invasive operations through introduction/improvement of various types of laparoscopic surgery, thus aiming to establish safer surgical treatment for the elderly.
