1. Up and down in our history

　Our group, so called Michan group, was originally established in April 2001 as a laboratory of Pathology, Department of Basic Gerontology, NILS. In the first year, although it was difficult to recognize our minimum research unit consisting of a section chief and a research fellow as a laboratory, we have started our research on the mechanism of Aging from the viewpoints of molecular biology and immunology. Our group was transferred to the laboratory of experimental animal model research (LEAR) that was newly established with the reorganization of National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology in March 2004. We then focused a couple of aging projects on cellular senescence, especially, with Mouse Embryonic Fibroblasts, (MEF) and on individual aging for immunological memory in a few members like the individual store, besides the maintenance and control of the rodents in experimental animal facilities. In this dawn period, we had set up the laboratory with the flexicibility and passion for the research in addition to novelty. Finally, we returned to the manager group in refreshed Department of Mechanism of Aging (DMA), (Department of Basic Gerontology as the former title) again in July 2005. Other three section chiefs were all invited from the top laboratories inside or outside of Japan. Our group also hopes that the individual interests or curiosity extracted from daily discussion or even chattering bear fruit as a result.
