Mission Statement

Ministerial approval was given in March 2004 for the creation of a new department. The head of the department was appointed in March 2005 and, since October 2005, staff are now all in place.

The aim of the department is to generate scientific evidence which will guide long-term policies for the improvement of health and well-being of older people in Japan.

Using a rigorously scientific approach, we will research and analyze problems and translate our result into effective and practical policy proposals that will have an impact on quality of life in our fast-greying society, as well as lead the way internationally.
