Oral Care Clinic

It is demonstrated that oral health and chewing ability are closely related to systemic health: medical disorders such as pneumonia and diabetes, aging, and cognitive impairment. It is notable that recent research has proved that aspiration pneumonitis, which could be fatal in the elderly, can be adequately prevented by oral care in the elderly. In responding to this evidence, the Oral Care Clinic was launched in 1999 as the nation's first specific outpatient service in this field. To generalize the practice of oral care, we have devised standardized oral care systems which can be readily practiced by everyone and produce adequate effects, and oral care support devices. We provide oral care using these tools mainly for inpatients and those who cannot care for themselves.
