Department of Alzheimer's Disease Research

Our mission

Our goal is to understand the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease through the analyses of the various cellular and animal models of the disease, leading to the development of novel diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic measures.

Welcome to the website of the Department of Alzheimer's Disease Research!

Our department consists of three Sections. For detailed information on the Department, please visit the website of each section below.

Section of Genetics and Pathobiology

The goals of our reserch are to elucidate molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and to identify novel risk factors and therapeutic targets for AD.

Section of Cell Biology and Pathology

Since aging is the biggest risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease (AD), it is quite important to clarify the age-related pathological mechanism. Moreover, it remains unclear how familial AD-related mutations induce AD onset, and recent findings showed that environmental factors are also involved in AD pathogenesis. Thus we conduct cell biological and pathological studies to clarify the mechanism of AD pathology for developing the brand-new preventive/therapeutic tools.

Section of Physiology

We study the mechanisms of synaptic dysfunctions accompanied with dementia for the purpose of development of a novel therapeutic method.
